World Heart Day: Bagmati chief minister vows to bring health services within citizens' reach

Bagmati Province Chief Minister Kiran Thapa has pledged that the provincial government will work on a priority basis to ensure citizens have easy access to health services.

Chief Minister Thapa said this while addressing a program organized in Lalitpur on Saturday, Asoj 10, on the occasion of World Heart Day. He said national development is not possible without healthy citizens and noted that his government is working with both health and education as priority sectors.

According to Chief Minister Thapa, the provincial government has expanded specialist services at 13 provincial hospitals within Bagmati province. He also said programs on integrated health services and nutrition promotion have been launched.

Speaking at the program, former State Minister for Health Umesh Shrestha said adequate investment is needed in the health and education sectors, stressing the need to provide free services to citizens from economically disadvantaged groups.

Similarly, senior cardiologist Dr Bhagwan Koirala said more attention should be given to prevention and public awareness rather than focusing on treatment only after disease occurs.

Meanwhile, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has said Bagmati province will be mostly cloudy tomorrow, with heavy to very heavy rain possible at a few places.
