Delhi protest: Kejriwal, Mamata Banerjee among over 1,000 taken into police custody

Police have taken more than 1,000 protesters into custody during a protest in the Indian capital, New Delhi, including former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and former West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee. They were detained while heading to protest at Jantar Mantar.
The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) had staged the protest demanding reforms to the election system and the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The protesters alleged irregularities in the voter list. Police also took CJP's chief leader and Neha Bora into custody.
Trinamool Congress (TMC) spokesperson Saket Gokhale said on social media that Delhi police had taken party chief Banerjee into custody. Police also detained a former chief minister of Kerala after he protested outside Kerala Bhawan in Delhi.
After being taken into custody, AAP convener Kejriwal released a video saying the country's youth have awakened. He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government of running a dictatorship and said they would not be intimidated.
