The Portuguese Football Federation has provisionally suspended star forward Cristiano Ronaldo after he left the national team's camp.

The federation's disciplinary council has initiated disciplinary proceedings against the 41-year-old Ronaldo. The council made the decision on Friday, which was made public on Saturday.

The federation has treated the matter seriously and prioritized the investigation.

Ronaldo had left the team's closed training camp in Copenhagen 24 hours before the Nations League match against Denmark. He left the camp after a dispute with head coach Jorge Jesus. Ronaldo alleges that the coach broke an agreement and a promise made to him.

According to Ronaldo, there had been a prior understanding that he would be given rest for fitness reasons in the matches against Norway and Denmark. He complained that although he was told he would play 30 minutes against Norway, he was only made to warm up for the entire second half and was never brought onto the field.

According to Portuguese media, the federation has placed the matter on an emergency list and is proceeding with an inquiry. The federation has made clear that the suspension is a precautionary measure pending the investigation and not a final decision.
