Sculptor late Kalu Kumal to receive posthumous Global Award

Kalu Kumal, a senior artist of Nepal's traditional sculpture tradition, is to be honored with a posthumous "Global Award."
The Infinity Service organization announced this at a memorial event held in Lalitpur on Saturday, saying the award ceremony will take place on November 1.
Born on Jestha 27, 1990 BS in Lalitpur's historic Okubahal, Kumal was the first artist in the country to receive a Fine Arts degree and was known as the "Krodhakala Shiromani" (master of wrathful art).
Skilled at crafting fierce, wrathful-form statues, he played a major role in introducing Nepali traditional sculpture to the international stage. His works reached London's Victoria and Albert Museum as early as 2018 BS.
Over his lifetime he created more than 600 statues, which have reached more than 55 countries. His creations include statues of Chaturbhuj Bhairav, Barahi, Ganesh Bhairav, Ashtamatrika, Vajra, and the Naga deities.
