Palestinian presidential and parliamentary elections postponed to September 2027

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has pushed back both presidential and parliamentary elections by about a year. Both elections will now be held together on September 11, 2027.

According to the President's Office, Abbas issued a presidential decree on Saturday setting the new date for both elections. The parliamentary election had previously been scheduled for November 28 this year, while the presidential election had been expected in early 2027.

The office announced the decision in a statement issued through the Wafa news agency on Saturday. The reason for postponing the elections was not disclosed in the details made public.

The international community has long pushed for parliamentary elections to be held in the Palestinian territories.
