Taplejung Food branch to sell sugar for the first time in 48 years

The Taplejung branch of the Food Management and Trading Company Limited is set to sell sugar for the first time since its establishment about 48 years ago. The branch has so far sold only rice.

According to branch chief Prakash Timsina, preparations have been completed to start sugar sales from Wednesday. He said 18,000 kilograms of sugar has arrived in Taplejung in the first phase.

Timsina said 360 sacks of sugar reached the branch office on Tuesday. The branch said it will sell sugar to consumers at Rs 110 per kilogram, a price considerably cheaper than the market rate.

An individual or family will be allowed to buy a maximum of 6 kilograms of sugar. The branch clarified that the sugar is being sold only for personal consumption.

The office warned that action will be taken under prevailing law if sugar purchased from the food corporation is found being resold for commercial purposes.
