Asian Games: Mukesh Bahadur Pal sets national record in 5,000m run

Nepali runner Mukesh Bahadur Pal has set a new national record in the men's 5,000-metre run at the 20th Asian Games. According to the National Sports Council, Pal covered the distance in 14 minutes 3.61 seconds.

The previous record was held by Rajendra Bhandari, who clocked 14 minutes 4.89 seconds at the 2004 Athens Olympics. The record, over two decades old, has thus been improved by more than a second.

Pal finished ninth among the 18 runners who took part in the race.

In rafting and canoeing's K-1 kayak event, Bijay Majhi and Ashish Ranamagar advanced to the semifinals on Tuesday after clearing the heats.

The T20 cricket quarterfinal between Nepal and Sri Lanka was cancelled due to rain. Based on ICC T20 rankings, Sri Lanka has advanced to the semifinals while Nepal has been eliminated.

A large number of Nepali spectators had gathered at Korogi Athletics Park hoping the match would be played.
