Jaludyo Jatra concludes in Banepa

The Jaludyo Jatra, a traditional festival of the Newar community, has concluded in Banepa, Kavrepalanchok, following age-old rituals.

In this festival, an idol of the deity is made from cooked rice for worship. The jatra began with daily worship and the offering of a duck sacrifice at the Dakshinkali temple in Swadha Tole, Banepa Municipality-5.

On the evening of Asoj 11, Jaludyo was placed on a chariot and paraded through various neighbourhoods and squares of the town. According to Subhalaxmi Manandhar, ward chair of Municipality-8, after the procession, Jaludyo was taken in a palanquin procession and ritually immersed in the Punyamata river.

She said a large number of locals and devotees attended the jatra. The festival, which carries Banepa's cultural identity, has been continued by the local community for generations.
