Nepal to host first International Himalayan Butoh Festival

Nepal is set to host its first International Himalayan Butoh Festival. According to the organisers, the three-day festival will be held in Pokhara from Asoj 30 to Kartik 1.

Artists from seven countries will present their performances at the festival. The festival is being presented by Adrishya Arts in collaboration with Art Ghar and Sadbhav Theatre Nepal.

Kiran Chapagain, Kedarnath Poudel, Bhishma Raj Joshi and Ram K.C. will lead the festival, the organisers said.

Butoh is an experimental dance-theatre and physical theatre style developed in Japan. It has no single fixed style or narrative structure.

Performers express people's inner feelings and questions about existence through body movement, stillness, timing, sensitivity and physical presence. The art form originated in Japan after the Second World War.
