Colored kingfisher spotted in Nepal for first time, bird species count reaches 904

A bird called the colored kingfisher has been recorded in Nepal for the first time. The Nepal Ornithological Society issued a press release announcing the addition of this new species.
According to the society, bird observer Anil Mandal photographed the bird on Asoj 13 near the Kuwa Mangalaiya gate in Ward 12 of Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City, Dhanusha.
The society said the identity of the bird was confirmed by the Nepal Bird Record Committee together with domestic and foreign ornithologists.
The bird is mainly found in coastal areas of South Asia and Australia. It is presumed that the bird may have reached Dhanusha after losing its way or due to weather.
