Tourism board to set up traditional swings at tourist sites for Dashain

Nepal Tourism Board has decided to set up and operate traditional swings at various tourist destinations across the country during Dashain. The programme is being run by the board's Tourism Heritage and Tourism Development Division. Apart from the Kathmandu Valley, the division is preparing to install swings at other popular destinations in the country in coordination with local governments and tourism organisations.

For this, the board has partnered with Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Kirtipur Municipality and Changunarayan Municipality. Bhaktapur Tourism Development Committee, Thamel Tourism Development Committee, the Himalayan Rescue Association and the Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal are also cooperating. Hotel Association Nepal, the Hotel Entrepreneurs' Federation and provincial-level hotel and tourism organisations are also taking part.

Under the agreement, places with heavy tourist traffic will be given priority. The swings will remain in operation throughout the Dashain period. The board said the programme aims to link indigenous culture, traditions and festivals with cultural tourism.

This year, Dashain begins with Ghatasthapana on Asoj 25.
