Vehicle movement resumes on Narayani bridge, only light vehicles allowed

Vehicles have started moving again on the bridge over the Narayani River connecting Narayanghat in Chitwan and Gaidakot in eastern Nawalparasi. Light vehicles have been allowed to use the bridge.

Movement of vehicles on the bridge had been halted since Sunday evening after floodwaters in the Narayani River swept away a cruise ship, a small watercraft, which got stuck under the bridge.

The administration is preparing two options to remove the cruise ship stuck under the bridge. "We have consulted with technicians and made all preparations. Preparations are underway to remove it in a way that causes the least possible damage to the bridge's pillars," said Chitwan's Chief District Officer Ganesh Aryal.
