Gagan Kumar Thapa elected new Nepali Congress president

Gagan Kumar Thapa has been elected the new president of the Nepali Congress.
Voting was held on Friday under the party's 15th general convention. More than 500 representatives who had arrived at Khula Manch were allowed to vote.
Vote counting at the National Hall in Kathmandu concluded this morning. Thapa received 6,584 votes, nearly 94 percent of the total. His rival Shyam Krishna Khadgi received 375 votes. Thirty-nine votes for the post of president were invalidated.
Thapa will lead the party for the next four years. Counting of votes for other office-bearer positions will take place from this afternoon in Sanepa.
