Malaysia's minimum wage to rise to 2,000 ringgit

Malaysia has announced an increase in workers' minimum monthly wage.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim made the announcement on Friday while presenting the 2027 budget. The minimum wage, currently 1,700 ringgit, will rise to 2,000 ringgit, marking a monthly increase of 300 ringgit.
The new rate will take effect from June 2027. More than 4 million workers are expected to benefit from the increase, including Nepali workers employed in Malaysia.
Alongside this, Malaysia is also tightening tax-related rules to control foreign workers employed illegally in the country.
