The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has said that moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely in a few places in the hilly and Tarai regions of the country today.

According to the department, the western wind is affecting Karnali and Sudurpashchim Province, while the monsoon wind, along with a partial influence of the western wind, persists in Koshi, Madhesh and Bagmati Province. Light rain or snowfall may occur in one or two places in the mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki Province, it said.

Rain is forecast with a 40 percent probability in Kathmandu, Pokhara and Nepalgunj. Temperatures are forecast at 16 degrees Celsius in Kathmandu, 19 in Pokhara and 23 in Nepalgunj. The department said there is no chance of rain in Biratnagar, Janakpur or Birendranagar, and fog is expected in Janakpur in the morning.

Tomorrow, cloud cover is generally expected across the country, with moderate rain likely in some parts of the hilly region. Moderate rain or snowfall may also occur in a few places in the mountainous region.

By Asoj 17, the monsoon had already withdrawn from many parts of western Sudurpashchim, Karnali and western Lumbini, and from a few places in western Gandaki. The monsoon wind still persists in the eastern part of the country.

Meteorologist Binu Maharjan said that although rain may fall in some places over the next three days, there will be no continuous, prolonged rainfall.
