Rain with thunder in hilly areas today and tomorrow, alert issued in four Karnali districts

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, light to moderate rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder, lightning, windstorms and hail is likely today in some parts of the country's Himalayan and hilly regions.

The department said heavy rain could occur in one or two places in the hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.

The department noted that both a western low-pressure system and monsoon winds are affecting the country.

Since rain with thunder has been falling in Dailekh, Surkhet, Salyan and Rukum West in Karnali, the Weather Forecasting Division has urged residents there to stay alert.

Continuous rain carries the risk of landslides, blocked roads and increased water flow in rivers and streams in the hilly and Himalayan areas, so residents of landslide-prone settlements have been asked to take special precaution.

Rain is likely in some parts of Karnali on Saturday and Sunday as well.

Kathmandu and Pokhara have a 60 percent chance of rain, with temperatures of 24 and 26 degrees Celsius respectively.

Fog is likely in the morning tomorrow in many parts of the Tarai.
