Nepal Electricity Authority sets RCOD for 27 hydropower projects totalling 540.47 MW

The Nepal Electricity Authority has set a required commercial operation date (RCOD) for 27 hydropower projects with a combined capacity of 540.47 MW in the first phase. The decision was taken following an initiative by Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Birajbhakta Shrestha.
The authority said it set the RCOD after assessing the actual status of projects that have signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) but failed to complete construction within the stipulated time.
Minister Shrestha said the government has adopted a policy of facilitating projects that are genuinely moving ahead with construction, rather than putting the private sector in trouble.
With the RCOD set, a path has been opened for about 540 MW of electricity generation from those projects, it has been stated.
