Flood causes Rs 74 billion in damage to Electricity Authority

Flooding in the Bhotekoshi River has caused damage worth around Rs 74 billion to the Nepal Electricity Authority.

Many hydropower projects and transmission structures, including the Upper Trishuli 3B hub, have been destroyed.

As a result, hundreds of megawatts of electricity have gone out of the national system.

The Authority said at a press conference on Monday that continuous rainfall since Asoj 9 has damaged further structures in various places.

The Authority aims to restore disrupted power supply across the country by Tuesday.

The Rahughat Hydropower Project, however, will take 10 days to resume operation.

With production reduced, a plan has been made to import up to 1,154 MW of electricity from India during the dry season from Poush 2083 to Baishakh 2084 to meet winter demand.
