Three candidates for Nepali Congress president, two posts go unopposed

Nomination registration for new leadership under the Nepali Congress's 15th general convention closed Tuesday evening.
In the race for president, incumbent president Gagan Kumar Thapa will face Shyam Krishna Khadgi and Kishor Singh Rathour.
Biswaprakash Sharma is the only candidate for senior vice president, and Pushpa Bhusal is the only candidate for women vice president. Both have therefore been elected unopposed.
Nine candidates have claimed the open vice president posts, and 11 have claimed the post of general secretary.
After an amendment to the party constitution, the party has reserved one general secretary post for a woman for the first time.
According to the final list of the election committee, 7,255 convention delegates will elect the new leadership.
