Mahakali floods damage Dodhara Chandani suspension bridge

Floods in the Mahakali River have caused major damage to the suspension bridge linking Dodhara Chandani and Bhimdattanagar in Kanchanpur.

This morning, a pillar fixed in the middle of the river collapsed, washing away part of the bridge. After iron plates on some sections of the bridge were seen abnormally lifted upward, police completely halted movement across it as a safety measure.

Police said the bridge would reopen only after repairs are completed. The bridge has been connecting Dodhara Chandani Municipality with other parts of the country.

According to Amrit Bik, the municipality's disaster contact person, damage has also been caused to the bridge's span—the hanging section—along with the pillar.
