'Sandhan Sangraha' collection featuring women's struggles unveiled

The book 'Mahila Andolanko Sahakhoji: Sandhan Sangraha,' which captures women's struggles and experiences, was released in Kathmandu on Tuesday.

This is the second book in the Sandhan Sangraha series, published jointly by The Story Kitchen and Tribhuvan University's Central Department of Gender Studies. Writers and scholars jointly launched the book at the Nepal Academy in Kamaladi.

The book contains research-based articles by 25 fellows and women journalists, covering topics ranging from the multi-layered discrimination faced by women with disabilities, Dalit and Adivasi Janajati women, to issues concerning gender and sexual minorities.

Professor Dr Kundan Aryal, head of TU's Central Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, said the book has brought alternative subjects of the women's movement into public debate. Sociologist Dr Meena Poudel described it as an effort to write an alternative history of women.

Dr Mrigendra Prasad Karki, executive director of CNAS, said bringing out a book series with a thumbprint logo was a distinctive undertaking. Kunjani Parajuli 'Pyasi' said the book reflects Nepal's diversity, as it includes stories of women from various classes and communities across the country.
