Slope above Beni market cracks, landslide risk looms

The ground on the slope above Beni market, the district headquarters of Myagdi, has cracked and a landslide has begun.

The sloped land behind New Road in the market, located where the Kaligandaki and Myagdi rivers meet, has developed cracks in several places. As the cracked section has started sliding downward, houses below the slope are now at risk.

Beni is also facing a drinking water shortage after floods and landslides triggered by continuous rainfall from Asoj 8 to 11 damaged the pipeline. The Beni-Jomsom road section connecting to Mustang remains blocked, and work is underway to reopen the road at places including Pokharebagar.

Meanwhile, the Prithvi and BP highways, which had been blocked by floods and landslides, have resumed operation.
