Traffic police launch special drive to protect passengers, stop fraud during festivals

The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office is launching a special campaign to curb passenger fraud and road accidents during the festival season.

The preparations have begun as passenger movement is expected to rise across the country with the festivals approaching.

According to Valley Traffic Police Chief, Senior Superintendent of Police Suresh Prasad Kafle, the campaign will target unauthorized persons selling tickets, charging fares higher than fixed rates, issuing more tickets than seating capacity, and selling multiple tickets for the same seat.

He said traffic rules will be strictly enforced, as overspeeding, carrying passengers and goods beyond capacity, and unhealthy competition among vehicles could lead to accidents.

According to office spokesperson and Superintendent of Police Naresh Raj Subedi, vehicle checks and monitoring have been increased across the Valley. Passenger help desks will also be set up at major locations, he said.
