Bangkok gets a month's rain in two days, tens of thousands caught in floods

Heavy rainfall has caused major flooding in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, with thousands of people still surrounded by water.

Bangkok received about 320 millimeters of rain over the past two days, an amount that would normally fall over the entire month of September. The heavy rain has overwhelmed the city's drainage system.

A state of emergency has been declared in all 50 districts of Bangkok, and the capital has been declared a disaster-affected area. The floods have affected about 329,000 homes and roughly 700,000 people. About 80,000 people remain stranded in floodwaters.

Authorities say it could take up to a week to fully drain water from some areas. Power supply has also been cut off in some flood-affected areas.

The government is using boats and mobile kitchens to deliver food to people surrounded by water. However, some affected people have been forced to venture out themselves in search of food and daily necessities. Although officials and aid workers have promised assistance, residents complain they have not received relief as promised.
