US claims sanctions have hit Iranian aviation sector

The United States has claimed that its sanctions on Iran's aviation sector have succeeded.

The US had imposed sanctions on Iran's entire aviation sector in early September, giving foreign companies until September 23 to comply. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent had claimed the pressure campaign would bring Iran to the point of economic suffocation.

He had claimed that once the deadline expired, all Iranian airlines would be grounded worldwide. He had warned that any company providing fuel, landing services or ticket sales to Iranian aircraft would be cut off from the dollar system.

Iran, however, has called the US action illegal and announced on Monday that it has filed a complaint with the United Nations. Iran claims that flight services are continuing to about 30 international destinations from Tehran alone.
