Civil service bill reaches parliament: mandatory retirement at 55

The government has registered the Federal Civil Service Bill in the House of Representatives.
General Administration Minister Pratibha Rawal introduced the bill in parliament on Thursday. The Council of Ministers had approved sending it to parliament on Tuesday.
The bill aims to replace the three-decade-old Civil Service Act. It includes a provision for mandatory retirement for employees who reach the age of 55 or complete 30 years of service.
It also provides that employees must wait two years after leaving their job before taking up another government appointment. The bill proposes filling 40 percent of deputy secretary positions through open competition.
Meanwhile, President Ramchandra Paudel has ended the current session of parliament.
