Limbu community group sets up Rs 10 million education fund for disadvantaged students

The Limbu community social organisation Kettakum Libang Pangpat Sayang has set up an education endowment fund of Rs 10 million to support underprivileged students. The organisation formally announced the fund at a programme held in Anamnagar, Kathmandu.
According to its chairperson, Lokesh Libang, the fund has been created with contributions from members of the Pangpat Libang lineage. He said the fund aims to support the higher education, research and skills development of talented but economically weak students.
The organisation said the fund plans to provide scholarships and skills training, and to establish libraries and study centres and provide educational materials.
At the programme, three students who achieved outstanding results in the SEE examinations were honoured: two from Taplejung and one from Sankhuwasabha. Chief guest Tila Bikram Nembang 'Bairagi Kainla', former vice-chancellor of Nepal Pragya Pratishthan, presented each of them Rs 10,000 in cash, a certificate and a dosalla (a traditional scarf). Nembang said such programmes inspire students' enthusiasm for studies.
The organisation's official website was also launched at the event. The website contains the organisation's history, lineage details, structure and future plans.
Sayang called on lineage members in Nepal and abroad to join the campaign, saying the organisation will further expand the fund.
