Kathmandu Climate Week 2026, focused on climate justice, local initiatives and global climate diplomacy, begins on Friday, Asoj 16.

Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal will inaugurate the event, themed "Climate Justice for Climate Resilience: From Local Initiatives to Global Diplomacy."

Advocate Arnav Chaudhary said the three-day programme, running until Asoj 18, will bring together lawmakers, policymakers, party representatives, climate experts and activists, indigenous and affected communities, youth, researchers, civil society, the private sector, financial institutions, journalists and development partners.

Organisers said priority will be given to the issue that Nepal contributes little to greenhouse gas emissions yet faces severe impacts from climate change.

Rising temperatures, melting glaciers, changing rainfall patterns and floods will also be discussed.

The programme aims to link the experiences and solutions of communities across the country with national policy and international climate diplomacy.

On the first day, there will be a high-level discussion on Nepal's climate priorities from the UN General Assembly to COP31.
