Nearly 280 million rupees in illegal goods seized from Madhesh in three months

The Armed Police Force Nepal has seized nearly 278.5 million rupees worth of illegal goods from Madhesh Province over the past three months.

The seized goods include clothing, groceries, electronics, tobacco products, cosmetics, motor parts and hardware. The Armed Police Force said vehicles worth more than 102.2 million rupees used to transport the goods were also seized and handed over to customs.

During the same period, more than 1,100 cubic feet of timber and 102 grams of silver worth over 3 million rupees were also recovered. Eighty-four people involved in smuggling were apprehended and handed over to the relevant agencies.

Twenty-two tractors, 26 tippers and two JCBs used in illegal excavation in Madhesh's river areas were also seized. The Armed Police Force said that in the course of curbing drug trafficking through the open border, more than 1,606 kg of marijuana, 9.5 kg of hashish and 193 grams of brown sugar were seized.

On suspicion of human trafficking in border areas, 29 women and 30 men were handed over to the relevant agencies for investigation. The Armed Police Force is updating digital records of border pillars and repairing them in coordination with its Indian counterpart.

It also said coordination with the Indian side is ongoing for the security of the Dashgaja area and for clearing encroached land.
