Flood-hit areas face disrupted schooling, experts urge skills-based education

After the devastating floods on the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers, schooling for students in the affected areas has still not become easy.
About a month after the floods, classes have resumed on a temporary basis in the affected areas. But problems with roads to schools have made daily commuting difficult for students.
Some students who had to transfer to other schools are facing difficulties in new places. With no hostels available, continuing their studies has also become hard.
Changes in children's psychology after the floods have become another major challenge. The government has said a long-term solution for schooling will be sought only after the Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) report is out.
Experts, however, have suggested prioritizing skills-based education over the traditional style at this time of disaster, so that learning is not halted.
