Nepali Lt Col's women peacekeepers praised in UN Congo mission

Nepal Army Lieutenant Colonel Rabin Thapa, serving in the UN peace mission in Congo, has been praised for giving women soldiers an active role.

The UN Peacekeeping campaign shared information on social media about the work of Thapa, who serves as battalion commander in the Congo mission.

According to the campaign, women soldiers were deployed under Thapa's leadership for patrols, community dialogue, security teams and emergency duties. This has helped in understanding the problems faced by local women and girls and in communicating effectively with the community.

He advanced the women, peace and security agenda as an integral part of the military operation, involving women soldiers even in roles typically dominated by men.
