Iran border closures: Pakistan-Iran trade halted for fourth day, Iraq shuts Shalamcheh crossing

Trade through major border crossings between Pakistan and Iran remains completely halted for a fourth consecutive day. Hundreds of cargo-laden containers on both sides have been stranded since the crossings were closed indefinitely from October 17.
The closures have halted trade between the two countries that passes through Balochistan. Both countries have called the halt temporary but have cited different reasons.
Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind said the step was taken to address security concerns, curb smuggling and improve border management, adding that the crossing would reopen soon as progress was being made in resolving administrative issues.
Separately, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi has directed that the Shalamcheh crossing with Iran remain closed until further orders. The Iraqi government has not publicly stated the official reason for the closure, though Shafaq News had earlier reported it was due to technical reasons.
According to Iran's state news agency IRNA, trucks carrying onions, tomatoes and potatoes that were stranded at the border have been allowed entry into Iraq.
