Trump administration revokes over 300,000 US visas

According to the US State Department, more than 300,000 visas have been revoked during President Donald Trump's second term. State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott disclosed the figures on social media platform X on Tuesday, saying no other administration in history had revoked visas at this pace.
An earlier department tally had put the number of revoked visas at more than 175,000 between the start of the term in January 2025 and August 10. Reuters reported that the pace of revocations has accelerated in recent weeks.
The administration says it will show no tolerance toward foreigners who break the law, commit fraud or pose a threat to national security. Trump has claimed that immigration enforcement and deportation campaigns are improving internal security.
However, human rights activists have accused the move of violating due process and freedom of expression. They have raised particular concern over visa cancellations targeting foreign nationals who have supported Palestinians amid Israeli attacks on Gaza, and have alleged that people are being targeted based on ethnicity.
Concerns have also been raised that tighter visa screening could affect foreigners seeking to travel to the US through legal channels.
