TikTok has run a two-day masterclass on digital storytelling for journalism students at Tribhuvan University.

The event, held in Kathmandu on Friday in partnership with the university's Central Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, brought together undergraduate and graduate students, faculty members, journalists and digital creators.

Organizers said the aim was to prepare students for a communication landscape being reshaped by mobile phones and social media. TikTok experts led sessions on producing journalistic content, safety and responsible storytelling, while experienced journalists shared practical ways to maintain credibility amid rapid change.

Tribhuvan University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa said journalism education is changing along with the way information is produced and consumed in the digital age. He noted that many students in the department are already working in the media industry alongside their studies, and thanked TikTok for coming forward to share its experience with them.

Rola Abu Hassan, TikTok's head of communications for the Middle East, Africa, South and Central Asia, and Eastern Europe, said the goal was to equip journalists to create content centered on accuracy, verification, accountability and public interest.

A panel featuring TikTok's government relations and public policy representative Kiran Chapagain and the department's Dr. Shreeram Paudel also discussed the changing role of AI in Nepali journalism.
