High alert in Pokhara after Seti River forms a lake at Ramghat

High alert has been put in place in the area after continuous rainfall formed a lake at Ramghat on the Seti River, which flows through the middle of Pokhara.

Water levels have been rising at Ramghat. Settlements including Pokhara-9 lie along the riverbank.

A lake forms at Ramghat on the Seti River almost every year. This year too, a lake had formed there at the end of Asar. Engineer Dr. Narayan Gurung has studied the Seti River and the disasters it could cause.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Forecasting Division has urged high alert, saying very heavy rainfall could occur in one or two places in Gandaki and Lumbini provinces on Saturday night. Pokhara falls under Gandaki province. Disasters including floods and landslides caused by continuous rainfall since Asoj 8 have killed six people across the country so far, one of them in Gandaki province.
