Floods submerge 500 homes in Saptari, over 2,000 families affected

Floodwater from the Saptakoshi river has submerged around 500 homes in Saptari after entering settlements.

The river's water level rose following continuous rainfall on Friday night, flooding settlements in Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality and Tilathi Koiladi Rural Municipality.

In wards 5, 7, 12 and 13 of Hanumannagar Kankalini, around 483 homes are submerged. In wards 4 and 5 of Tilathi Koiladi, water has entered about 17 homes.

More than 2,000 families have been affected by the flood. According to Mayor Birendra Majhi, arrangements have been made to immediately provide two meals a day, morning and evening, for those affected. He said that once the water level recedes, victims will be identified and further relief will be provided.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology's forecast issued Saturday evening indicated the possibility of thunderstorms and rain at many places in the Tarai of Madhesh Province, with heavy rain at one or two places. However, the department said that today, Sunday, there will be partly cloudy skies in the Tarai of Madhesh and Koshi, with rain at only one or two places.

Meanwhile, two days of continuous rainfall in Baglung has blocked the Kaligandaki Corridor, the Mid-Hill Highway and dozens of rural roads. This has cut off road access to Baglung Bazaar, the district headquarters.
