Thundershowers in hill areas today and tomorrow, heavy rain likely in some places

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast thundershowers in the hill regions of the country today and tomorrow. According to the department, the country is currently under the influence of both a western low-pressure system and the monsoon winds.

The department said heavy rain could occur at one or two places in the hill areas of Bagmati and Sudurpashchim provinces today. Moderate rain or snowfall is likely at one or two places in the Himalayan region.

Tomorrow, heavy rain could occur at one or two places in the hill and Terai areas of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim, and in the hill areas of Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali. Rain with gusty winds and hail is likely at a few places in the Himalayan region and some places in the hills. Thundershowers are also possible in some places in the Terai of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim.

Among major cities, Kathmandu is forecast to have temperatures of 16 to 18 degrees Celsius and a 30 percent chance of rain. Pokhara is forecast at 19 to 21 degrees with a 40 percent chance of rain, and Birendranagar at 18 to 20 degrees with a 20 percent chance of rain. Moderate rain with thunder may occur in all three cities.

Biratnagar, Janakpur and Nepalgunj are not expected to receive rain, and fog will form in the morning. The department said temperatures are expected to be 23 to 25 degrees in Biratnagar, 22 to 24 degrees in Janakpur and 21 to 23 degrees in Nepalgunj.
