Bagmati government seeks 1 billion rupees from Centre for flood reconstruction

The Bagmati province government has decided to immediately request a grant of 1 billion rupees from the central Disaster Management Fund to rebuild infrastructure damaged by floods and landslides. The decision was made at a meeting of the Provincial Disaster Management Council held in Kathmandu on Friday, chaired by Chief Minister Kiran Thapa Magar.

The meeting also decided to speed up reconstruction of roads, bridges, suspension bridges, government buildings, drinking water systems, irrigation infrastructure and schools across the province. It further decided to mobilize additional resources for disaster risk reduction, rescue and reconstruction.

Chief Minister Thapa said all provincial mechanisms have been placed on full alert due to the heightened risk of floods, landslides, debris flow and inundation caused by the rains. Instructions have been issued to keep heavy equipment such as dozers, excavators and loaders ready on risk-prone roads.

Authorities have also been told to remain ready to launch search, rescue and response operations immediately in the event of a disaster.
