Insurance claim surveyors now to be assigned through automated system

Nepal Insurance Authority has arranged for surveyors who assess damage for insurance claims to now be assigned automatically through a computer system.

The Authority has put the system, named the Automatic Surveyor Deputation System, on trial since Monday evening, Asoj 12.

Once a claim is registered, the system will select a suitable surveyor based on the nature of the claim, the surveyor's expertise, geographic location, availability, seniority, portfolio, and past work assigned.

There have been complaints that surveyor selection has not been scientific or transparent, with some getting a lot of work and others very little. The Authority expects the new system to reduce the practice of insurance companies picking surveyors of their own choice.

Online training is scheduled for Asoj 13 for about 36 people, including IT and claims heads of non-life insurance companies. Surveyors will be trained afterward, and there are plans to bring reinsurance companies into the system as well.

The system is expected to cut the time and cost of the claims process while increasing transparency and accountability.
