Government prepares to move ahead with domestic football as suspension remains unlifted

The government has prepared to resume domestic football activities even though FIFA's suspension has not been lifted.

Nepali football has been largely at a standstill since world football governing body FIFA suspended the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) on Asar 10.

After repeated talks to lift the suspension failed to produce concrete results, the government concluded it should move ahead with domestic activities.

On the same matter, the government held discussions with former football players on Monday.

Ramcharitra Mehta, member-secretary of the National Sports Council (NSC), said the discussions reached an understanding to advance domestic football in a planned manner.

He said the government has decided to run domestic leagues to keep football active. According to Mehta, the government has concluded that ANFA has not cooperated in the process of lifting the suspension, which is why the government is moving ahead on another path.
