Rain threatens Nepal-Sri Lanka cricket quarterfinal at Asian Games

There is a risk of rain affecting the men's cricket quarterfinal between Nepal and Sri Lanka at the ongoing Asian Games in Japan.

According to the schedule, the match will begin tomorrow morning at 5:45am at Korogi Sports Park. If the match cannot be played due to rain, Sri Lanka will advance to the semifinal based on ICC seeding, and Nepal will be eliminated from the tournament.

If Nepal wins this match, it will make history by reaching the semifinal. The earlier first and second quarterfinals were cancelled due to rain without even a toss taking place.

After those matches between Pakistan-Hong Kong and India-Afghanistan were cancelled, India and Pakistan advanced to the last four based on seeding. Nepal reached the quarterfinal as winner of Group A, having defeated Afghanistan in the group stage.

Nepal and Sri Lanka are meeting at the Asian Games after 16 years. In the 2010 tournament's quarterfinal, Nepal lost to Sri Lanka by two wickets. A match scheduled between the two teams at the 2024 T20 World Cup was also cancelled due to rain without a toss.

In the tournament's fourth quarterfinal, Bangladesh and Malaysia are scheduled to play tomorrow morning at 10:15am.
