Prithvi Highway opens one-way at Krishnabhir, 11 highways still blocked, diversion work begins on BP Highway

The Prithvi Highway, blocked by a landslide at Krishnabhir in Dhading, has been operating one-way since 12:30 pm on Saturday. Ward Chair Kumar Basnet of Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-7 said the highway would run regularly from today if no further landslides occur.

The temporary diversion built after the road subsided on Bhadra 14 was washed away by a landslide carrying rocks on Thursday night. The Muglin-Mauwakhola section toward Chitwan is also running one-way, while only small vehicles are plying at Ichchhakamana-4, Dharapani.

According to the Department of Roads, rainfall since Asoj 8 has obstructed 11 highways across the country. On the BP Highway, traffic is halted at locations including Mamti, Piple, Daunne-Kalopul, Charsayabesi and Choukidanda, and the highway is completely closed from Choukidanda in Namobuddha to Nepalthok in Sindhuli.

According to Suman Yogesh, chief of the Bhaktapur Road Division Office, reconstruction has begun on diversions swept away by the Roshi River at Namobuddha-6 Choukidanda, Roshi-7 Ghumaune, and Roshi-11 and 12. The Makwanpur section of the Kanti Highway has reopened.

The Siddhicharan, Mid-Hill, Kaligandaki Corridor, Tamor Corridor, Rapti and Karnali highways are also obstructed at various points, and work is underway to reopen them. According to Gandaki Province Police, 16 road sections in the province are completely blocked, while landslides have hit seven road sections in Karnali Province.

The department has requested travelers to check the latest road conditions before setting out.
