Narayani flood enters Susta, Armed Police rescue 29 people

The Armed Police Force has moved 29 people to a safe location after floodwater from the Narayani River entered a settlement in Susta Rural Municipality-5 of West Nawalparasi. Water had entered homes in the Tharu settlement after continuous rainfall since Asoj 9 increased the river's flow.

The 21-member team mobilized from the Armed Police Force's Susta Border Out Post (BOP) at 8:45 am on Saturday was led by Armed Police Inspector Manoj Karki. The team also saved one cow and 13 goats. The rescued residents and livestock have been kept at the holding center in Susta-5 itself.

Earlier, on Friday afternoon, 78 families from the Tharu settlement were moved to safe locations, and at night, an additional 85 families from Saini Tol and Badki Tol were also relocated. According to Chief District Officer Deepak Raj Nepal, 163 people have been relocated from risk areas.

According to locals, around 250 houses have been submerged, and those affected are staying in neighbors' houses on higher ground and in community buildings. The flow at the Gandak Barrage, which was about 92,000 cusecs on Friday, reached about 280,000 cusecs on Saturday. As the river level continues to rise, other settlements in Susta are also at risk.
