Narayani crosses warning level, water flow at Gandak Barrage nears danger limit

Following an increase in the Narayani River's flow due to continuous rainfall, the water flow at the Gandak Barrage on the Nepal-India border has neared the danger mark.

According to the Gandak Barrage, Valmikinagar, 273,600 cusecs of water was flowing from the barrage at 9 am on Saturday. The water level was measured at 359.40 feet upstream and 356.80 feet downstream of the barrage. Since it is an old structure, 300,000 cusecs is considered the risk limit, and the current flow is only 26,400 cusecs below that.

At Devghat on the Nepal side, a flow of 348,000 cusecs was measured at 8:35 am, and it is increasing. According to the Flood Forecasting Division, the Narayani's level at Devghat reached 7.49 meters, crossing the warning level of 7.3 meters, where 9 meters is considered the danger level.

The warning level has also been crossed at some measuring stations on the Trishuli, Marsyangdi, Darmakhola, Kaligandaki and Myagdi rivers. Residents of low-lying areas along the lower banks prone to flooding have been urged to exercise high caution.
