Journalist Kishor Shrestha released from Cyber Bureau after settlement with Himesh Pant

Janaastha Weekly editor-in-chief Kishor Shrestha was released a few hours after being arrested on Saturday. Police had taken Shrestha from his home in Nakkhu, Bagdol, Lalitpur, to the Nepal Police Cyber Bureau in the morning, based on a complaint filed by Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) leader and actor Himesh Pant. The complaint was related to a news report about land grabbing.
Shrestha was released after the two sides reached a settlement following discussions at the Cyber Bureau. The two sides agreed on three points. Under the agreement, the matter concerning Shrestha will be taken to the Press Council Nepal, while Pant has also agreed not to post against Shrestha on social media.
Journalist Shrestha said he was arrested because he had written a news report, and that he would not abandon his professional duty.
Earlier, the Federation of Nepali Journalists had issued a statement condemning the police for arresting Shrestha.
