North Korea tests AI-equipped torpedo

North Korea has said it tested a new high-speed torpedo that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to identify targets and plot its attack path.
According to state news agency KCNA, the torpedo, named "Super-speed Jaam-2.0," was tested underwater on Thursday. Pyongyang says more than 180 tests have been conducted over the past five years in the course of developing the system.
The test signals a further escalation of the arms race on the Korean Peninsula. Just days earlier, North Korea had announced testing two types of cruise missiles from a submarine.
Analysts say support North Korea may be receiving from Moscow in exchange for sending troops to aid Russia in the Ukraine war could be accelerating its weapons technology development. According to Professor Lim Eul-chul of Kyungnam University, AI can help the torpedo distinguish real targets from decoys meant to mislead it.
