Traditional swings draw crowds along the Bagmati riverbank

Along with the festivities of Dasain, a growing crowd has gathered to ride traditional swings, or linge ping, on the banks of the Bagmati River in Kupondole, Lalitpur.
Most of those coming to ride the swings are children, who wait their turn. Once their turn comes, they ride the swings enthusiastically, sharing the joy of Dasain.
Along with those riding the swings, the presence of onlookers has created a festive, communal atmosphere on the riverbank. In recent times, the culture of swings has been shrinking in the city. In such a situation, the swings set up along the Bagmati riverbank have kept the traditional festive spirit of Dasain alive in the city.
The custom of riding swings during Dasain is a cultural practice that has continued for generations. The swings serve to provide entertainment while also increasing social gatherings and spreading collective joy.
