Khem Century song row settled: disputed words, scene to go, title to change

The controversy over singer Khem Century's song "Bahun Baaje Kina Kaseko" has been resolved through a written agreement. Hindu activist Sagar Thapa and others had filed a complaint at Nepal Police's Cyber Bureau, claiming the song demeaned the Brahmin community, and had also demanded that the song be taken down immediately.

According to bureau spokesperson and information officer Dilip Kumar Giri, the main objection was to a line urging people to eat pork. The bureau first called both parties for discussion on Tuesday, but since no conclusion was reached, a second round of talks was held on Wednesday.

In Wednesday's second round of talks, Century agreed to remove the disputed lines from his song. The agreement states that the scene showing a Brahmin eating during a puja will be blurred, and the words "Bahun Baaje" will be changed in the title.

Both parties signed the agreement, and Century gave a written commitment to edit the song. Giri had said the controversy would be settled on Wednesday itself, since the song contained words that directly targeted the community.

The song, written, composed and sung by Century himself, was released on YouTube three weeks ago. It has been viewed about 6.5 million times so far.
