New building act: Grants of up to Rs 75,000 for poor families to build homes

Prime Minister Balen Shah has said that a bill for a new building act, aimed at ensuring shelter for all citizens, has been presented in Parliament.
The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development has registered the bill with the Secretariat of the Federal Parliament.
Under the proposal, poor and disadvantaged families will be eligible for a grant of up to Rs 75,000 to build a house.
The bill includes provisions to relocate families living in disaster-affected and high-risk settlements to safe locations and build homes for them. It also provides for free construction materials for these families.
For middle-class families who want to build their own homes, the proposal offers concessional loans, tax exemptions and easy instalment facilities.
These provisions will come into effect only after the bill is passed by Parliament.
