3,506 police to be deployed in Kathmandu during festivals, drone surveillance planned

District Police Range, Kathmandu has made public a special security plan targeting Dashain, Tihar and Chhath. Under the plan, 3,506 police personnel will be deployed in Kathmandu during the festival season.
At a press conference held on Friday, SSP Dilip Ghimire of the range said the security plan would take effect from Friday and remain in force until Kartik 30. According to him, this time's security plan has been made technology-friendly. Police have prepared measures ranging from drone surveillance to the deployment of dogs.
Police said the plan has been brought in with the aim of controlling possible criminal activities during the festival season, including theft, pickpocketing, robbery, gambling, fraud and kidnapping. The target is to reach the scene within 5 to 10 minutes of receiving a report of an incident.
Range spokesperson SP Danbahadur Thapa said the plan had been prepared keeping in mind the possible security challenges during the festival season.
